About IT FEST

The State IT Fest is a platform provided by the IT@School Project enabling the students state-wide to showcase their talents in ICT enabled contents, which is part of their curriculum. The event is aimed at developing interest, provide encouragement to the student community for exhibiting independent initiatives and imbue the necessary thrust to embrace IT beyond the curriculum. Students from Government Schools and Government Aided schools compete in various IT based competitions including Digital Painting, Multimedia presentation, Web Designing, Malayalam Tying and IT Quiz during the 2-day event. The IT Fest is conducted in four phases- School level, Educational District level, District level and State level. Winners from the school- level would compete in the Educational district level. The winning teams would proceed to the District level and from there to the final State level meet.

Variety of competitions:

The contestants of the IT Fest get an opportunity to try their expertise on the following IT skills:-
Digital Painting– This one hour contest gives the students an opportunity to showcase their creativity in a digital canvas. Free software applications like Xpaint and Gimp are is used in this competition. The contestants would be given the theme for the competition 10 minutes prior to the start of the contest.
Multimedia Presentation– In this, students gets a chance to prove their skills in developing multimedia presentations using Open Office Impress free software application. The theme would be provided to the participants 10 minutes before the start of the competition. Students would get 1 hour to make their presentations, for which resources such as picture, audio/video clips would be provided to them.
Web Designing– The students would get 1 hour to design a web-page using HTML in this competition, for which resources such as pictures and videos would be provided to them. Similar to other contests, the theme would be provided to the participants 10 minutes before the start of the competition
IT Quiz– In this unique quiz which is based on IT and ICT contents, the teams would go through various rounds comprising of IT topics including IT applications used in day-to day activities, contents from IT textbook, Individuals/ institutions contributing to the growth of IT, etc. From this year onwards, there would be preliminary rounds followed by the Finals.
IT Project– Similar to the multi-media presentation competition, students are required to present an IT Project before a panel of judges. Each student would get 10 minutes for presenting the project followed by 5 minutes of interaction with the judges. The Project should be on any of the IT/ICT related topics in the curriculum or something of social relevance. Three copies of the Project report and the printout of the slides of the presentation needs to be submitted to the Jury in advance.
Malayalam Typing– This competition would test the speed and accuracy of students in Malayalam typing. A customised free software application is used for this exercise, wherein students need to key-in the text given to them in the prescribed column with accuracy and
